Hasta (हस्त, 'the hand') is the thirteenth nakshatra, sidereal Virgo 10°00'–23°20', ruled by the Moon and presided over by Savitar — the solar deity of *inspiration*, the giver of the impulse-to-act, the Vedic god to whom the Gayatri Mantra is addressed. The symbol is the *hand*, and the nakshatra is named for the five fingers — the five attributes of skilled action: the thumb of *grasping*, the index of *pointing*, the middle of *measuring*, the ring of *adorning*, the little finger of *delicacy*. Hasta is the nakshatra of *craft* — the skilled hand that makes what the world needs.
