Gorse

For hopelessness — the "what is the point" state where you have given up trying. Bach's remedy for the long flat after too many attempts.
What Gorse actually treats
Gorse is Bach's remedy for the state past Gentian. Where Gentian is the deflation after one setback, Gorse is the resignation after many. The chronic illness that has not improved. The job search that has gone on too long. The relationship pattern that keeps recurring. The Gorse type often says "I will try, but it will not work" — they go through the motions without expectation. Bach saw the remedy as the relighting of the inner flame, the return of expectancy, the willingness to risk hope one more time.
The state it meets
Hopelessness without acute pain. The flat resignation of "what is the point." Going through motions without belief. "I have tried everything." Says yes to one more attempt but expects nothing. The pilot light has gone out.
The shift it brings
The relighting of the inner flame. The willingness to expect, to try, to risk being wrong about hope. Not certainty — just the return of openness to the possibility of change.
In love
Gorse in love is the person who has been hurt enough times that they go into the next relationship already preparing for its ending. The work is to let yourself want this one to work — knowing it might not.
In work
Gorse in work is the founder on the fifth pivot who has stopped believing in any of them. The remedy supports the choice to either fully invest in one direction or honestly walk away — not the half-life of "trying without believing."
A 5-minute practice
Find the one thing in your life that is currently working — however small. A friendship. A morning routine. A piece of work that did land. Write it down. Read it. The pilot light needs ONE flame to relight from, and there is always one.

- If I let myself hope for change in this area, what would I have to be willing to risk that I am currently protecting myself from?
- What ONE small thing is currently working in my life that I could let myself feel, without immediately discounting it?
