Over-care for welfare of others · the 5 grip-remedies · 38 of 38

For rigid self-discipline — the soul that demands perfection of itself. Bach's remedy for the self that has become its own dictator.

What Rock Water actually treats

Rock Water is the only Bach remedy made from water itself, drawn from a healing spring. It is the remedy for the rigid disciplinarian — but turned inward. The Rock Water person demands perfection of themselves: strict diet, strict practice, strict moral code. They do not impose it on others (that would be Vine or Vervain) — they impose it on themselves. Bach saw the Rock Water state as a sincere spiritual desire turned into self-tyranny. The remedy preserves discipline while restoring kindness toward the disciplined.

The state it meets

Rigid self-discipline. Strict rules for self. Denies self pleasure as if pleasure were sin. Sets impossible standards. Cannot relax. Spiritual perfectionism. The hardest taskmaster the self has is the self.

The shift it brings

Discipline that includes kindness. The capacity to keep the practice without the cruelty. Pleasure becomes allowed. Rest becomes practice. The relationship with self softens — and, paradoxically, the discipline often becomes more sustainable.

In love

Rock Water in love is the partner whose rigorous self-standards make the other feel constantly inadequate by proximity. The work is to let yourself be imperfect in front of the partner — and to discover that the love survives.

In work

Rock Water in work is the operator who cannot enjoy any milestone because the next standard is already raised. The remedy supports the move to actually celebrate, actually rest, actually be in the win — before the next ascent.

A 5-minute practice

This week, deliberately break one of your own rules. Eat the food you have forbidden. Skip the practice that has become compulsive. Sleep in. Notice what happens — the world does not end, and the discipline, returned to voluntarily, becomes more honest.

3 key questions

  1. What rule am I keeping that has begun to harm more than help — and what would breaking it once teach me?
  2. When I have softened a discipline before, did it actually collapse, or did it deepen into something more sustainable?
  3. Whose taskmaster did I inherit — and is the master I am being to myself actually mine, or somebody else's?
