Vesica Piscis is Latin for *bladder of the fish* — the lens-shaped figure formed when two circles of the same size overlap so that the centre of each circle lies on the perimeter of the other. It is the simplest sacred-geometry figure that involves more than one circle, and from it every other figure in the family can be derived: the Seed of Life (six vesicas around a centre), the Flower of Life (an entire weave of them), the Christian fish symbol (a vesica with two lines extending from the meeting point), the pointed Gothic arch (a vesica turned vertical and built into stone). The mystic reading: the two circles are the two aspects of divinity — masculine and feminine, spirit and matter, inside and outside — and the overlap, the almond-shaped opening, is *where the third thing comes through*.
