For hatred, envy, jealousy, and suspicion — the closed heart in protective contraction. Bach's remedy for the heart that has lost trust.
What Holly actually treats
Holly is Bach's remedy for the contracted heart. Hatred. Envy. Jealousy. Suspicion. Bach saw Holly as the great remedy for the absence of love — when the heart has closed against another (or against life itself) and has begun to leak the toxins of that closure. Bach considered Holly one of the most universal remedies because, in his view, every negative emotion eventually traces back to some absence of love. The remedy is not the manufacturing of feeling; it is the dissolving of what blocks the feeling that wants to be there.
The state it meets
Hatred, envy, jealousy, suspicion. Hardened against another or against life. The heart in contraction. Bitter reactions to others' good fortune. Inability to feel warmth where warmth would be natural.
The shift it brings
The heart opens enough to feel. Not forced love — the dissolving of the wall that prevents love. Compassion returns, including for the part of the self that needed the wall.
In love
Holly in love is the partner whose suspicion or jealousy has become bigger than the relationship. The work is to recognize the wound under the suspicion — what was lost or feared — and to grieve it directly rather than weaponize it.
In work
Holly in work is the colleague who is bitter at another's promotion, the founder who hates the competitor. The remedy supports the move from envy to acknowledgment — what the envy says you want, which can then become a direction.
A 5-minute practice
Identify the specific person or situation your heart has hardened against. Name what you actually wanted from them or from it. The hatred is usually grief in armor; the practice is to remove the armor and let the grief be felt.

- Who has my heart closed against, and what did I actually want from them that I did not receive?
- What is the envy telling me I want for myself — and could I pursue it directly, separate from the person I envy?
- If I let the wall down even slightly with this person, what would I risk feeling — and is the risk worth the freedom?
