䷑18 · Work on What Has Been Spoiled
Wind stopped at the mountain — long-stagnated air; the inherited mess that requires patient repair.
The Hexagram
Hexagram 18, *Gǔ*, is the image of wind blocked by the mountain — air that has stopped circulating, the season of *decay-from-stagnation*. The classical name is *Work on What Has Been Spoiled* (or *Decay*). The hexagram counsels: *supreme success; it furthers one to cross the great water; before the starting point, three days; after the starting point, three days*. The lesson: there is something spoiled — an inherited mess, a stagnated relationship, a project gone bad — and the work is to repair it. The "three days before, three days after" counsel is precise: take the time to study the cause before acting, and to consolidate after.
