The Nakshatra

Ashwini (अश्विनी, 'the horsemen') is the first nakshatra, the opening 13°20' of sidereal Aries, ruled by Ketu and presided over by the Ashvini Kumaras — the twin horse-headed physicians of the gods named in the Rig Veda (1.116, 1.117) as the doctors who restored the sight of the blind, the legs of the lame, the youth of the aged. The symbol is *the horse's head* — pure forward thrust, the muscle-memory of the run before the rider has had time to think about the route. Ashwini begins the wheel: it is the nakshatra of *first arrivals* — the spark, the new venture, the healing that happens before diagnosis has caught up. Classical Vedic astrology (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, c. 4th century CE in its current form) gives Ashwini natives a quick mind, swift action, and a natural gift for healing — the energy that gets there first. The Ketu rulership names what is hidden underneath: the speed comes from a soul-memory the personality cannot yet account for, the gift of *direct knowing* that bypasses analysis. Ashwini does not deliberate; Ashwini moves.

When the Moon transits Ashwini

The Moon transits Ashwini once every sidereal month for roughly a day — a window for starting things, taking the first step, beginning the healing protocol, mounting the new project. Anything begun under Ashwini moon carries the *first-arrival* signature; the energy is fast, the mistakes are fast too. Use the window for ignition, not for completion.

In love

Ashwini falls fast and gallops in. The first encounter has the quality of recognition — *I know you* — even when the personality has not yet been introduced. Reversed: the gallop without the rider — falling in love with the velocity of falling rather than the person at the other end. Ashwini love that lasts is Ashwini love that learned to *dismount* and meet the partner on the ground.

In work

Pioneering work — the first product, the unmapped territory, the medicine for what no one else has diagnosed yet. Founders, ER doctors, first-responders, athletes, sales-pioneers, opener-of-new-markets. Ashwini is wasted on maintenance; give it new ground.

The gift

*Healing speed.* The recognition that arrives before the chart has been read, the action that restores before the protocol has been written. Ashwini at its best is the doctor who is already moving by the time the rest of the room has registered the emergency.

The shadow

Speed without seat. Ashwini unbalanced is impulsive, restless, unable to finish, addicted to the new beginning because the middle is unbearable. The classical caution: the horse runs only as far as the rider can stay mounted. Ashwini that learns to slow down does not lose its speed; it gains a route.

Crown — Ashwini Ketu-rulership opens at the top of the head, the direct-knowing channel, the spark that arrives from above the personality. Pair Ashwini work with crown-chakra practice when the question is *how to trust the first impulse*.
