The Nakshatra
Pushya (पुष्य, 'the nourisher') is the eighth nakshatra, sidereal Cancer 3°20'–16°40', ruled by Saturn and presided over by Brihaspati — the guru of the gods, the lord of sacred speech, the planetary intelligence of Jupiter. The symbol is the *cow's udder* (the nourishment that feeds without depleting) and the *flower* (Pushya as 'the blossoming'). Pushya is, in classical jyotish, the *most auspicious nakshatra* — the one chosen for coronations, sacred rituals, the beginning of long undertakings that must succeed. The Saturn rulership names what the auspiciousness costs: Pushya nourishment is *earned through discipline* — the cow gives milk to the one who tends her, not to the one who demands it. Classical texts name Pushya natives loyal, philosophical, naturally given to service, with a deep instinct for the discipline that makes long-term success possible.
