The Hexagram
Hexagram 45, *Cuì*, is the image of waters gathering on the earth — a great pooling, a great congregation. The classical name is *Gathering Together (Massing)*. The hexagram counsels: *success; the king approaches his temple; it furthers one to see the great man; this brings success; perseverance furthers; to bring great offerings creates good fortune; it furthers one to undertake something*. The lesson: gathering is powerful AND dangerous. Many people massed together can produce great things — or great destruction. The classical counsel is to *honour the centre* (the king at his temple), *seek wisdom* (the great man), and *make great offerings* — investments commensurate with the scale of the gathering.
